Where theCells Go.
QED supplies the cell. These are the systems it is designed to go into, built by our partners and customers. Every image on this page is an application concept, not a QED product for sale.
Six places it fits
One cell, many systems
What stays the same is the cell: non-combustible, with no lithium and no cobalt. What changes is the system around it.
Application · conceptGen 1 · pre-pilot
Grid & BESS
Utility-scale and commercial battery energy storage, sited where a fire risk would otherwise rule it out.
Application · conceptGen 1 · pre-pilot
Data centers & critical infrastructure
Backup and storage in places where a fire is never acceptable.
Application · conceptGen 1 · pre-pilot
Homes
Wall-mounted storage from residential integrators, next to the people it powers.
Application · conceptGen 2 · in the lab
Electronic devices
Compact rechargeable cells for the devices people carry.
Application · conceptGen 3 · in development
EVs, mobility & robotics
Energy density equivalent to solid-state batteries, for vehicles and robots (targets).
Application · conceptGen 1, 2 & 3
Defense & government
Secure, non-combustible storage with all raw materials sourced from Canada and the US.
- Data centers & critical infrastructure Remove the catastrophic tail risk instead of managing it. A chemistry that cannot enter thermal runaway removes the scenario nobody wants to explain to the board.
- Hospitals & facilities near people A non-combustible chemistry can be sited where flammable chemistries face practical or legal limits — subject to local codes.
- Utilities & grid operators Durability and safety matter more than weight when a system sits on the ground. Results are shown at the scope they were measured, and certification will be stated only once granted.
- Defense & government All inputs sourced from Canada and the US, with no lithium and no cobalt in the chain: supply resilience treated as a strategic requirement.
- Homes A home battery that cannot catch fire: peace of mind and independence, in a calm, quiet object.
- Industrial & cold storage Simpler to install and handle — no active cooling or suppression needed to manage fire risk.
- Personal electronics Small-format cells built on a chemistry that does not burn.
- Vehicles & mobile storage Storage for electric vehicles is the Gen 3 direction: energy density equivalent to solid-state batteries (targets). In development, not a product.
- Robotics & humanoids High-density storage for machines that move is part of the Gen 3 direction — roadmap only.
- Sensors & earpieces A trickle of energy, held safely against the body.
- Phones & laptops The devices people carry all day, and charge every night.
- Power tools & mobile storage Portable power that has to be dense, quick to charge and tough.
- Homes Storage that lives inside the home, next to the people it powers.
- Robots & vehicles Machines that move need dense storage they can be safely close to.
- Buildings & data centers Critical facilities where uptime is everything and a fire is unthinkable.
- Grid & utilities Long-duration storage that lets renewable power be used when it is needed.
